Señorío de Briñas

Briñas is a small village of 250 people, situated near Haro at the gate of La Rioja and on the shores of the Ebro river.

Some historians say the origin of Briñas goes back to Roman times. Until the end of the 17th century it was a municipality of Haro, however, as soon as it obtained its own town hall the aristocracy of Haro started turning Briñas into a residential zone. Thus, in the 18th century the centre of Briñas was made up of houses of the nobility and all its residents were noblemen.

It was in the 18th century Briñas featured the highest density of mansions and palaces in the region. Today, one of them is hosting Hotel " Hospedería Señorío de Briñas", whose former owners feature several noblemen, among others Martín Tosantos Coca, who was the military governor of Biscay and Oviedo.

During the Spanish Civil War Italian troops occupied the mansion, whereafter the Tosantos sisters made it their home.

The comfortable bedrooms have their private bathrooms. You will enjoy the Riojan cuisine, not to mention its world-famous wines! And, if this were not enough, El Señorío de Briñas has its own spa!
